Do I need a PFD when I SUP?

Updated: Aug 17, 2018

Yes, stand up paddle boards (SUP's) are considered nautical vessels like kayaks or canoes. Transport Canada requires that you have a PFD on board. You don't have to wear the PFD but is recommended for your safety. An inflatable PFD waist belt is a common choice for SUP paddlers. It allows you freedom to stroke without the interference of a vest style PFD.

Where is everybody? I'm keen and ready, waist belt PFD on and paddle in hand. Sunset paddles are the best!
